GCP Nepal 2012
Objectives:
Adventure education
has been proven to be a powerful tool for developing strength of character. It
also has those risks, uncertainty or even unknown elements, which compel the
participants to develop and sharpen their coping and management strategies in
an ambiguous environment. It forces them to operate out of their comfort zone
while having to manage their relationship with self, others and the
environment.
In an adventure,
there is always an insurmountable task to challenge the participants and this
serves as the impetus for self-motivation, perseverance and interdependence
within the team. Participants also need to be aware and alert to the potential
hazards and dangers during the course of the adventure, which sets a good
platform for them to learn risk assessment and management. In conclusion,
embarking on an adventure, which is always experiential in nature, is an
extension of the school’s applied and reflective learning focus. It is one big
step towards developing the skills and competencies as well as the values
espoused by the school.
